What is the most important part of a relationship?
I’d say mutual understanding and constant communication. Why? It’s simple. If you want to build your dream house, you first have to build a solid foundation. Otherwise, the walls and the roof over your head will collapse soon after the first heavy storm.
The same goes for relationships. Every single person has different opinions, different preferences, and desires. If you want your love to grow and your relationship to thrive, you have to find a way to meet your partner halfway and open your heart to an honest and heartfelt conversation with them. You have to learn that making compromises are the key to a successful and loving bond.
But, if you feel like you can’t share these 10 important things with them, then your relationship has probably taken a wrong turn.
- HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT HIS CLOSE FRIENDS AND FAMILY
It’s normal to dislike some of your partner’s friends or not get along so well with some members of his family. And, of course, it is perfectly normal to share this issue with them if there’s a reasonable explanation for your problem. Just know that he also has the right to share some of his opinions about your friends.
- WHAT YOU PREFER IN BED
In my opinion, sex is the second most important thing in a relationship. Because even though sex is considered a physical activity, sex between two loving partners is much more than that. It is a whole new level of intimacy.
So, if you don’t feel comfortable talking to your partner about your sexual fantasies and the things you like and dislike in bed, I have some bad news for you. Your relationship is not headed in the right direction.
- YOUR CRAZIEST DREAMS AND GOALS
You should be able to share your passions and talk about your craziest, deepest dreams with the person you are in a relationship with. Your partner should be your biggest support. If he doesn’t want to be involved in this part of your life, he might not be the right one for you. You have to be brave and face that.
- THINGS THAT BOTHER YOU
Making compromises is the key to everlasting, healthy and loving relationships. But there are some things that should not be overlooked. Every person has their own list of things that annoy them. Even though they might not be the absolute deal-breakers, it is still important for us to feel free to mention these things to our partner without feeling that we’re complaining too much.
- YOUR FINANCIAL STATUS
This is truly important, especially if you’ve decided to move in together. Your bank account balance is something you should always keep to yourself. However, when making such big steps as getting married or moving in, it is essential to know what you’re getting yourself into. Therefore, your financial status is something that needs to be discussed between you and your partner.
- WHERE YOUR RELATIONSHIP IS GOING
It’s simple, for one relationship to work, there have to be two people who truly want it to work. These people should fight together, not against each other. That means opening up, facing uncomfortable topics and accepting certain painful truths rather than simply giving up at the first hurdle.
- YOUR PAST EXPERIENCES AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON YOU
We all have heavy baggage with us. It usually includes relationship mistakes, childhood traumas, issues that we cannot seem to overcome and things that are constantly affecting us.
If you can’t share these things with the person you love the most, who else can you talk to?
- EVERYTHING YOU’RE TERRIFIED OF
The truth is, the right person will do everything to understand your fears, no matter how irrational they might sound. Whatever it is that is making your skin crawl and causing you nightmares is a part of you. If this person cares about you and loves you just the way you are, he will understand your struggle.
